When I was first discipled, this book was used by my discipler, and now good friend, Mike Goetz to help me learn the Scriptures. I will be forever grateful for Mike's time with me, but also for this book because of it's simplicity in helping me learn the Bible for myself.
This is the current Bible that I use. I really enjoy the NKJV transation of the Bible. I also enjoy the commentary and tracing of the Holy Spirit's work throughout Scripture. The concordance in this Bible is somewhat limited, so if you're looking for a Bible with an extensive concordance, this would not be the best choice for you. Otherwise, it's a five-star edition of the Bible.
This was one of the first books I read after becoming a Christian. I wasn't looking for more evidence of the faith because I was already convinced, my heart was changed. But this book was my first taste of apologetics (explaining the validity of the faith) and it was done in such a suspenseful and intreging way because it traced one man's journey in his search for truth. I highly recommend it.
If you're unfamiliar with Ray Comfort or the teaching of Hells Best Kept Secret, brace yourself for a bit of a shock. Ray's writings and book will catch you off guard at first, but after you read it through (some have listened to HBKS teaching hundreds of times) you will catch on...fire.
I enjoy Hybel's teaching on the different styles of evangelism. This has helped me feel more comfortable in my own approach to personal evangelism without trying to imitate other people.
This book is used as a reference guide for those who work the phone lines of Billy Graham's ministry. I love the simplicity of this book. Sorted alphabetically by topics (A, Alcoholism...etc), it makes for an easy to use reference guide giving a counselor scriptural advice and providing a guide to turn every conversation into an opportunity to lead someone to Christ. I've used this book in helping friends who call over the phone as well as a personal reference guide for myself. It's a great resource to have.
Mark Virkler, Ph.D. is the president of Christian Leadership University, a school entirely devoted to "Bringing the voice of God to your learning experience", has written an extremely valuable book for the body of Christ. In it, Virkler describes his own struggles with hearing the voice of God and the keys God gave him to learn His voice. I will be forever grateful for this book because it has brought me closer to my Lord in a deep and special way by helping me to better hear and distinguish the voice of my Lord and Shepherd, Jesus Christ and has helped me develop a more intimate relationship with the person of the Holy Spirit. Read this book!
Wow!! This is one of the best written books I have ever read. Gary Thomas will challenge your thinking and possibly save your marriage. Thomas takes a tough topic (that God intends marriage for our holiness, not our happiness) and makes it pleasurable with his magestic words. This book is an excellent source for any struggling couple, but it seems like he zones in on husbands (or was that the Holy Spirit dealing with me?!). I give this book two thumbs up!
This is an excellent book, short to read, inexpensive and powerful.
It's a book I should read every year. Nancy Missler makes a deeper connection between our inner life and thinking and the Old Testament sanctuary. It's a very practical and helpful book that I highly recommend.
There is a battle going on for the hearts of men around the world. Sexual temptation is unavoidable...or is it?
Read this book and you will be lifted up to a whole new level of righteousness and holiness before the Lord.
If you are struggling with Internet pornography, I would also highly recommend visiting www.settingcaptivesfree.com and starting their free sexual purity course, "The Way of Purity Course". Don't delay another day, do it now!
I love this book and I love this man, Patrick Morley! I had the privilege of attending his Friday morning men's breakfast in Orlando a few years back. I told him how fond I was of his book and he gave me seven signed copies for all the guys in my small group! Find a few Christian men who desire to grow in their walk with the Lord and read one chapter of this book a week. In terms of Men's books, I consider this a classic!
I enjoy Ed Silvoso's writings because of their emphasis on prayer. I would also highly recommend his book, Anointed for Business, for anyone intersted in workplace ministry.
Learn from the one of today's leading experts on Christian maturity, Dr. Henry Cloud. This book is very thorough in it's explanation of the methods by which people mature and grow in the Christian life. It took me some time to read it (368 pages), but it was well worth the time. I highly recommend this to anyone who has a small group or desires to help other people grow.
I really enjoy reading E.M. Bounds writings on prayer. This book features his complete works and writings on prayer. It has provided me great encouragement in my prayer life and taught me how to be persistent and pray things through. It will make you want to pray more.
I love all of Jim Cymbala's books, but this one is great because it gives real-life examples of God's miraculous power in prayer. Cymbala pastors the vibrant Brooklyn Tabernacle church in Brooklyn, NY. I would recommend visiting his church if you're ever in that area of town.
If you are interested in writing for Christian magazines or even writing your own book, this is an invaluable resource. Sally E. Stuart publishes this book annually listing agents, editors, publishers and much more. The cool thing is that the book now comes with a CD that has the entire contents of the book on file which makes it very easy to load into your pc and do a search.
