Naked Before God
Pierre Eade
A Time of Judgment

Yet, there will come a time when all humanity will stand naked before God.  I like how Job put it.  After losing everything he had including his children, his business, his employees (servants) and his possessions, he tore his robe, shaved his head, fell to the ground and worshipped God saying,

“Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there: the Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” (Job 1:21)

Job points out that there are two times we are all completely naked before God – at our birth and at our death.   Babies aren’t born with diapers on and the dead don’t take their clothes (or any other possession for that matter) with them into eternity.   The apostle Paul confirms, “For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.” (1 Timothy 6:7).   Or as the old saying goes, “You can’t take it with you.”

We will one day stand before God and be held accountable for our life with nothing to hide behind.  “And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”  (Hebrews 4:12)  Jesus said,

"There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.  What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs.  'I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more.  But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.'"(Luke 12:25)
Standing before God at the end of life is no laughing matter.  The Bible clearly states that, “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” (Hebrews 10:31)  Those who have not accepted Christ as their Savior and lived under His Lordship, will spend eternity separated from God in a place we don’t like to talk about, hell.  For those who have called upon God to forgive their sins by the blood of His Son Jesus, there is very good news.  “For ‘whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’” (Romans 10:13)   If you are not certain of your eternal destiny, don’t waste any time in calling out to God and His Son Jesus for the forgiveness of your sins.

For those who are saved there will still be a judgment.  It’s often referred to as the Bema Seat of Christ.  The word Bema comes from the Greek word used in a passage of scripture (2 Corinthians 5:9-11) that is translated in English as “judgment seat” of Christ.   It is at this judgment that believers will receive rewards for our labors in serving God and in essence “lose” those rewards for the times we strayed from obeying God.   But the question still remains,

Will Christians who stand naked before God feel the same fear that Adam felt or that unbelievers will feel on judgment day?”
